Skincare! There are so many products out there it is difficult to know what is good for you and where to even start. My skin has always been super important to me so I have been digging deep into this subject since years and thought I would put a quick overview together for you guys. Skincare can sound super complicated but here are the basics that you should be doing no matter how old you are.
I have also included my current favorite products!
Also just want to mention that this post is not sponsored and includes my personal honest opinion. Also just remember that everybody's skin is different so products that work well for me might not work for you. I, in general have rather dry skin and almost no break outs.
Cleansing your face
Easy as that! You need to clean your face. Why? Well because there are a lot of bacteria on your skin that could lead to unwelcome'd break outs. Also, as a woman, chances are you are wearing make up and you need to make sure to get every little drop off before you sleep
( EVERY NIGHT) so that your pores can breathe and your skin can regenerate.
Cleansing should happen in the morning, after work outs and definitely before you go to bed.
I have two favorites when it comes to cleansing, both are cruelty free.
Dermalogica - special cleansing gel
Opthiphi - Pure cleansing wash, which is very gentle, I like to use this one in the evenings
Exfoliating is super important because it removes dead skin cells and helps in the process of creating new once. So not only does it give you healthier looking and more vibrant skin but it's also important for anti aging. Depending on your skin type you need to be careful not to overdo it. Exfoliating is good but there is a too much of a good thing. I love to drybrush, which is a very inexpensive method, I got mine at the body shop and I currently use the daily microfoliant from dermalogica, a fantastic and cruelty free brand, which I can highly recommend.
Ah sunscreen! A battle I have had with myself since a young age and after seeing the results from my skin analyses and the damage the sun has already made to my skin I really wish I would have listened to that little voice inside of me (that obviously knew better) way back. In any case, I have now included this in my morning routine and LOVE Nimue's face sunscreen. It's not fatty or oily and sinks into the skin very quickly.
The sun is really our biggest enemy when it comes to skin aging so it's never to early to start using sunscreen and it should really be done daily. Even if you sit in an office, some UV will still come trough the windows. I use a 40 SPF in Winter and a 50 SPF (which has one a beauty award in 2019) in summer and if you live in Namibia or any similar weather conditions you should too. If you live in Europe you can definitely look at a cream that has a 20 SPF worked in but in summer you should definitely look at a 40 SPF. I love that it packs some antioxidants for a further benefit to your skin.
Nimue claims to be cruelty free however I could not find them on a certified site.
At last but not least you need to moisturize, especially if you are in your late 20's or have dry skin like I do. Here is where I leave you alone in the wild jungle of beauty products that is out there since you really need to find the one product that works for you and that works for your skin. My one advice to you is to look at including Vit C, E and as you get older A ( as a pre conditioning to Retinol, which we will explore more deeply in one of my next posts).
My favorite is the Babor Reversive Range, I am gonna be honest it comes at a high price but it just works for me and makes my skin glow like no other product. And it's Vegan! YEAH!
If you don't want to spend so much money on skincare and are not in your late 20's yet I can also highly recommend the body shop, they have a great Vit E and a Vit C cream plus body shop is a great brand to support because of their amazing work to stop animal cruelty.
I hope I could help you a little and give some clarity to you and your beautiful skin!
